We wanted to share some exciting work we've recently completed for a lovely customer right here in Catford, and let's just say their home is about to get a whole lot warmer underfoot! This project comprised of two parts: underfloor heating installation throughout the property and a full bathroom renovation. From the initial consultation to the final touches, our focus was on delivering a high-quality finish with meticulous attention to detail. The bathroom renovation featured in this post was carried out by our bathroom expert Gordon.

Catford Bathroom: From Basic to Beautiful (with a Touch of Tech!)

Here’s a detailed look into the journey of this Catford bathroom makeover:

Survey and planning

The initial quotation stage was carried out when previous occupiers lived at the property. A detailed assessment was supplied with pricing for a new bathroom and underfloor heating. During the planning stage we ensure that all important details are covered including new unit positions, tiling options, features etc. You can see some preliminary designs exchanged with the customer below:

Careful Demolition

We started by carefully disconnecting, isolating, and safely removing all the old fixtures – the bath, toilet, sink, cabinets, and even the existing wall and floor tiles. It’s always satisfying to see the space cleared and ready for its new look!

Fresh Foundations

Where needed, we reboarded the bathroom walls to create a smooth and stable surface. We also meticulously prepared the floor which at this point had the underfloor heating pipes and insulation fitted by FITnFIX UFH team.

Wall Refresh

The existing painted walls were given a thorough once-over. We smoothed, cleaned, and prepped them, addressing any scuffs or damage to create a perfect canvas for the new design.

Plumbing First Fix

A key part of this renovation involved altering the plumbing to accommodate the new sanitaryware and radiator positions. This included some clever adjustments to the external stack waste for the new toilet and re-routing pipes for the new basin. It was a bit of a plumbing puzzle, but we love a good challenge! We extended the existing right-hand pipe box to neatly accommodate the new basin placement as per our initial design discussions with the customer.

Tiling

Gordon brought his tiling expertise to the forefront, matching new wall tiles to any previously tiled areas and part-tiling around the entire bathroom to a height of 1.2m, complete with stylish trims. The bamboo design chosen by customer was replicated on the fully tiled bath panel which included an access hatch (try to spot it!).

Second fix

A brand new bath was installed, wall hung counter top vanity basin unit with a free standing tap to completement the wall hung Japanese style toilet (more on that below). To complete the bathing area, we fitted a sleek new bath glass screen.

The Star of the Show: The TOTO Washlet! This was a real highlight of the project! We installed a stunning wall-hung Japanese TOTO Washlet with a concealed cistern, including a neatly tiled box to house it. This incredible piece of technology brings a new level of hygiene and comfort to the bathroom experience. We also ensured it had a proper electrical connection for all its amazing features. You know your bathroom is special if it has a remote control holder!

Final touches

A stylish new wall-mounted vanity unit with a countertop basin and a chic countertop-mounted tap was installed, along with a conveniently placed towel rail.

Showering in Style: We fitted a modern wall-mounted bath filler and a thermostatic shower valve, ensuring a safe and comfortable showering experience every time.

Fresh Air Flow: We supplied and installed a wall-mounted, low-noise, low-profile extractor fan with an over-run function, complete with a new electrical connection. This ensures excellent ventilation and helps to keep the bathroom fresh.

Nifty Niche: We even built a handy niche in the bath area for storing toiletries and essentials. This was fully tiled with matching trims, adding both functionality and a touch of design flair.

Sealed for Perfection: Finally, we meticulously sealed all edges and joints with high-quality waterproof silicone, ensuring a neat, durable, and watertight finish that will last for years to come.

This bathroom renovation in Catford has truly transformed the space into a tranquil and modern retreat. The addition of the TOTO Washlet is a game-changer, offering unparalleled comfort and hygiene. The Underfloor heating was a comprehensive project, and we're really pleased with how it all came together. We know our customer in Beckenham will be enjoying the cosy warmth of their new underfloor heating system for years to come along with their beautiful new bathroom.

A little peek at the underfloor project which took place at the same property and has it's own dedicated blog post.
